Salt tablets for water softening – the complete guide

How salt tablets differ from regular salt, how ion-exchange regeneration works, and how to size your supply.

Salt tablets are high-purity sodium chloride (NaCl ≥ 99.5%) compressed into uniform pellets. They are the standard fuel for ion-exchange water softeners.

How regeneration works

Hard water carries calcium and magnesium ions that the resin swaps for sodium. Once exhausted, the resin is regenerated with a saturated brine produced from salt tablets.

  • High purity – no anti-caking additives, low iron
  • Slow dissolution – minimal dust
  • Hard form – no clumping in the brine tank

How much do you need?

Consumption depends on inlet water hardness, softener size, and draw. A typical single family home uses ~25 kg / month. Hotels and car washes start at 100 kg per week and up.

Packaging and logistics

Standard: 25 kg bags on EUR pallets (1000 kg / pallet) and 1000 kg big bags. Pan-European delivery, FCA or DAP.
